Have you experienced something that changed your perception of yourself, your safety, or the way your nervous system responds? Are you concerned you are experiencing PTSD or C-PTSD symptoms? Trauma can impact us all differently. Healing from trauma can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve spent years feeling unheard, unsafe, or disconnected from yourself.

Trauma results from experiences that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope. It can stem from one incident or prolonged stress and may lead to symptoms such as anxiety, flashbacks, emotional numbness, hypervigilance, sleep difficulties, or difficulties in relationships.

EMDR FAQs

What is EMDR?

1

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced-based treatment modality that uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain process distressing memories.

What does an EMDR session look like?

2

The first step is focused on building trust, stability, and coping tools so you feel supported and in control. Next we collaborate to identify memories, experiences, or beliefs connected to your distress. Then we begin reprocessing using bilateral stimulation, where your brain begins to naturally process and integrate the memory. Bilateral stimulation is just a fancy phrase that means stimulating left/right movement. We ensure you leave sessions feeling stable, present, and supported.

How long does EMDR take?

3

This varies. Some people notice shifts in a few sessions; but complex trauma may take longer. We’ll check in regularly and adjust as needed. There is no right way to heal, or timeline we have to stick to.

EMDR is an evidenced-based modality that was primarily designed to treat post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, additional research has shown EMDR to be effective in treating a variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety and panic, depression, grief and loss, and more.

Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?

5

No. EMDR does not require sharing graphic details. You only share what feels safe.

Trauma is not a personal failure. It’s a human response to overwhelming experiences.
